Bursary Post 16 - 19

Campion Sixth Form 16 –19 Bursary Fund is designed to help and support any student who faces financial barriers to participation in their education, such as costs of transport, meals, books, equipment, field trips and other course-related costs. There are 2 types of 16-19 bursary:

Vulnerable Bursary (Category ‘A’)

You are entitled to apply for the Vulnerable Student Bursary of up to £1,200 per year if you are: 

  • in care
  • care leavers
  • receiving Income Support, or Universal Credit because they are financially supporting themselves or financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent on them and living with them such as a child or partner
  • receiving Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments in their own right as well as Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit in their own right

Discretionary Bursary (Categories ‘B’, ‘C’ & ‘D’)

This discretionary bursary is available to Campion Sixth Form students not eligible for the full vulnerable bursary who live in a household with a low household income.

Priority will be given to students whose household income is £16,190 per annum or less or eligible for free school meals.

Applications from students with a household income of between £16,191 and £20,817 will be considered on an individual basis and awards will be dependent upon available funds. Depending on the number of applications received, funds may also be made available to other students who have a specific financial need, but where the total household income is between £20,818 and £24,000 or where there are other exceptional circumstances.

Where a bursary has been awarded to contribute towards the cost of a 16+ travel cost, the school will pay the contribution amount as soon as the bursary is awarded.

The remainder of the bursary awarded may be retained by the school and used to pay for books, equipment, field trips etc on an as required basis. Students should complete the form on the school website under Sixth Form Bursary or collect an application form the Sixth Form Team.

Eligibility

To be eligible to receive a bursary in the 2021 to 2022 academic year, a student must be aged 16 or over but under 19 on the 31 August 2021 and be enrolled on a full-time course at the school. Therefore, if your birthday is before 01/09/2002 you would not be eligible for the 16-19 Bursary Fund.

Payment Conditions

All bursary payments will be directly linked to attendance, behaviour and performance. A bursary can be withdrawn at any time during the year if the student’s attendance, behaviour or performance is not at an acceptable level.

Application Outcome

Students will be notified of the outcome of their application to the 16 – 19 Bursary Fund by letter.

Additional Support:

Students assessed as eligible for a bursary may also apply on an item by item basis for support towards educational trips, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and other resources usually purchased through school and/or reimbursement for other ad-hoc expenses to further their education, e.g. travel to open days or interviews etc.

Please note, these requests will be considered on an item by item basis, taking account of total financial awards made and attendance and behaviour records.
