Important changes affecting students in years 8-13 from next term

Dear Parent/Carer,

We would like to thank you and your child for your support and co-operation during this difficult period of time; everyone will welcome a break to rest and recharge over the next two weeks.

We have reviewed our arrangements as planned, alongside our Trustees, to consider student movement around the school.  This term our students have been taught within year group bubbles and the staff have moved between lessons. This model has worked to a certain extent, but has limited student access to specialist facilities and support. Students have reported that the lack of movement around the site has negatively impacted on their wellbeing and limited their curriculum experiences.  This has also had a noticeable effect upon our staff.

Whilst updating our procedures, our priority remains the safety of our students and staff. Our risk assessment has been reviewed and updated to reflect these changes in consultation with an external agency. Where positive cases are confirmed we will continue to apply the DFE isolation procedures based on seating plans and work with Track and Trace.

The following will remain the same:

  • Wearing of masks whilst moving around the school site
  • Timings of the school day
  • Tutor session within year group base
  • Staggered break and lunch times
  • Year 7 will remain in F Block for all lessons
  • Two-hour lessons to minimise movement around the school
  • Students will wear their PE kit on days when they have a timetabled PE lesson
  • Students will be expected to sit in their seating plans in each lesson

The following changes will be implemented from January:

  • Students will move between subject lessons to enable them to access specialist facilities
  • One-way systems in operation within each block
  • Teachers to meet and greet students at the start of each lesson to enable them to enforce sanitising routines on entry and exit to lessons

Students will be briefed on the first day back about the changes and they will be escorted around the site to familiarise with the one-way systems.

Thank you

The Senior Leadership Team
