Literacy across the Curriculum

We believe that a quality Literacy program should develop children’s love of reading, writing and discussion.
We believe that a secure basis in literacy skills is crucial to a high quality education, to empowering students, improving their self-esteem,  impacting positively on mental well-being and behaviour and promoting higher levels of attainment.   Moreover it will give our children the tools they need to participate fully as a member of society when they leave Campion School.

Our priority focus for last year was to develop a culture of reading for pleasure.  This is one area of literacy we intend to continue to develop this year.  We want students to want to read.  We want to remove barriers to reading, to enable students to be able to select appropriate books, be enthusiastic about reading and to see adults around them who share this passion.  We want to inspire parents and carers to support their children in reading at home.

We want to see children be confident in the art of speaking and listening and who can use discussion to communicate and further their learning.  In addition to this we recognise the importance of nurturing a culture where children in need of extra support receive the help they need, where all students acquire the vocabulary needed for their secondary education, take pride in their writing, can write clearly and accurately and adapt their language and style for a range of contexts.
