PE is a popular subject at Campion. Our PE curriculum follows the National Curriculum and offers students a wide range of activity areas within games, gymnastics, dance and athletics. Students receive a variety of indoor and outdoor lessons. We have a wide range of facilities including an astroturf pitch and a large sports hall. Campion offers a variety of extra curricular activities and runs teams in many of these with after school matches against other schools. Extra curricular clubs run at lunchtimes and also after school until approximately 4.15pm.

Extra Curricular Clubs and Activities

Lunchtime Clubs and After School Clubs cater for the wide range of activities offered by the PE department. Please see below for the PE department extra-curricular programme.

We also offer lots of opportunities for students to develop their leadership and volunteering both in school and in the community.

KS3: What will students learn?

A variety of sports and activities with slight differences between the curriculum for boys and girls and including: hockey, netball, rugby, football, basketball, badminton, cross country, dance, gymnastics, athletics, rounders, cricket and tennis.

For 2016 the Year 7 and Year 8 students are taught in 4 lesson rotation blocks. students are currently on one indoor and one outdoor lesson per week.

KS3: Assessment

Students are assessed at the end of each block of work and at the end of the teaching of each sport or activity. There is a combination of teacher assessment, self assessment and peer assessment. Students’ national curriculum levels, effort and behaviour are also assessed at regular intervals.

KS4: What will students learn?

In KS4 students will choose their own optional pathway from a lifestyle choice and a performance pathway. Students choose from a variety of activities and follow courses for a half term. Students can opt to follow courses in GCSE PE. If they follow the 3 year GCSE then they will also follow a Sports Leaders level 1 course.

Please see GCSE PE.

KS4: Assessment and Qualification

GCSE PE and Sports Leadership are external qualifications and are assessed externally with some internal moderation. Students’ effort and behaviour is assessed in core PE.

KS5: A level and Higher Sports Leaders

At KS5 we offer two main opportunities, these are: A level PE and Higher Sports Leaders (HSL level 3).
