Statement of Intent

At Campion school we encourage students to be inquisitive. The science curriculum creates a healthy curiosity about the universe and promotes respect for living and non-living.  Throughout the course students will acquire and develop knowledge in each unit across the years. The units have been developed through the National Curriculum and builds on previous knowledge.

The key aims of Science is to ensure that all pupils:

● Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics

● Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them

● Are equipped with the scientific skills required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. We understand that it is important for lessons to have a skills-based focus, and that the knowledge can be taught through this

Impact

Key stage 3

Students will follow the content according to National Curriculum for science using a spiralling approach which reviews and builds in the understanding from KS2. Practical skills are modelled and carried out for students with opportunities for students to develop the skills of enquiry and working scientifically.

 

Key stage 4

Students will experience a wide range of new topics and skills at KS4 whilst following either the Edexcel combined route or taking as an option the Edexcel separate science. Each topic strand is linked intrinsically to prior knowledge and skills from KS3 and builds in terms of complexity, skills and application. Our aim is that all students should leave Campion being able to understand and explain the scientific world around them and more importantly are equipped with the skills to problem solve and critically evaluate the ‘big’ moral questions.
